In 2024 I created Manta Media Maldives in collaboration with a small team of experts. We are highly selective about the type of stories we curate: The aim is to deliver compelling articles and information that’s genuinely useful and inspirational for travellers, rather than dull industry news and the same takes on stories you’ll see everywhere. We don’t charge resorts to cover their news on Manta Media Maldives, as part of our pledge to maintain our journalistic integrity. Any advertorials (branded content articles and videos) are marked as such.
I’m a travel journalist and have written thousands of stories about the Maldives since 2010. So, in the process, I’m lucky enough to have visited dozens of resorts, dozens of times over – not to mention the island communities, too. As the only foreign travel journalist who has lived in the Maldives long-term (Male’ and Hulhumale’), I have gradually carved out a niche as the foremost expert on writing about the Maldives from a traveller’s perspective.
In 2012 I learned to scuba dive in the Maldives and am currently PADI Advanced and Nitrox-certified, having logged well over 100 dives. This helped me to better understand and appreciate the marine life and fragile biodiversity of the Maldives. Since the Maldives territory is 99 percent water, you are only seeing a fraction of the Maldives if you don’t put your head underwater!
I also have a keen eye for design, having studied fine art, alongside English, film-making, and script-writing. This gives me an appreciation of the most unique innovations by architects and interior designers at some of the Maldives’ best resorts. It also aids our branded content video collaborations with Forever Video.
Thousands of my articles on the Maldives have been published in magazines, websites and guidebooks including BBC Travel, Forbes Travel Guide, Business Insider, US News & World Report, Tripadvisor’s Stories platform, and many more. I’ve also worked as editor of local publications, including Maldives Traveller, TMA Inflight, and TNMV, as well as contributed to Maldives Independent and Eat.MV.
Back in 2011, I founded the media company, Manta Media, in Male’, as a collective of travel journalists, photographers, videographers and translators. Still going strong today, our team doesn’t only articles but also offers brand strategy, blog posts, brochures, SEO-optimised website content, press releases, photography, videography, and other media services for the travel and tourism industry. Clients past and present include Amilla Maldives Resort (3 year contract), Hurawalhi Resort Maldives, AAA Hotels & Resorts Maldives, and Outrigger Resorts International.
