Passengers transiting in Dubai now have more upgraded seats to choose from
Good news for budget-conscious passengers who appreciate the perks and comfort of an upgrade to Premium Economy. Emirates has announced it is deploying a newly retrofitted Boeing 777, now featuring a Premium Economy cabin. The refurbished aircraft will operate on select services between Emirates’ hub in Dubai and the Maldives’ Velana International Airport. It will also fly between Dubai and Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The upgraded Boeing 777 will serve flights EK656/657 and EK660/66 to and from the Maldives. In total, there are 24 new Premium Economy seats on board. They are adorned with plush leather upholstery, enhanced cushioning, larger pillows, custom blankets, reusable amenity kits, and adjustable headrests.
Arranged in a 2-4-2 layout, the seats have a broader width, wider recline and extra legroom in comparison to Economy class seats. Booking this class also means you get a larger checked baggage allowance (35kg), plus 10kg of carry-on luggage allowance. A more sophisticated dining experience is another perk of Emirates’ Premium Economy service.

The three other classes (Economy, Business and First) on the retrofitted Boeing 777 have also been given refreshed interiors. Emirates will continue to operate four daily flights to Malé, with three now served by the upgraded plane.
If you’re travelling to Sri Lanka before flying to the Maldives (a popular ‘split holiday’ combo option), you can also check out Emirates’ newly retrofitted 777 aircraft. From July 18th, Emirates will launch a second daily service between Dubai and Colombo, using the refurbished Boeing 777. The new EK650/651 service will complement the existing daily A350 service, which already features Premium Economy seating.
