The Four Seasons Maldives Surfing Champions Trophy attracts the world’s top surfers
Surfing fans are being invited to the Maldives to watch world champions as well as local surfing legends battle it out on the waves this September. This year’s Four Seasons Maldives Surfing Champions Trophy 2025 takes place from September 4th to 11th. Four Seasons Resorts Maldives at Kuda Huraa, in North Male’ Atoll, hosts and organises the event, now in its 13th year. The five-star resort is located only five minutes from Sultan’s surf break, where the showdown takes place.
The final lineup of the Four Seasons Surfing Champions 2025 will be announced shortly. But previous competitors include surfing royalty like Kelly Slater, Taj Burrow, Carissa Moore and homegrown champion, Ahmed ‘Amaday’ Agil. Amaday, who is from the famous Maldivian surfing island of Thulusdhoo, achieved his dream of becoming the top-ranked surfer in the Maldives in 2022. He has his eye on the Maldives Surfing Champions 2025 title, which Taj Burrow won last year.

Sultan’s surf point has right-hand waves offering a mix of barrels and open faces. The waves break off Thamburudhoo, a small uninhabited island, where there’s also another break named Honkey’s. Unlike most islands in the Maldives, Thamburudhoo is quite rocky, so the best place to watch the event is from an elevated position, like a boat.
This leads us to why the competition has become known as ‘The world’s most luxurious surfing event’. Guests staying at Four Seasons Kuda Huraa get to watch the Maldives Surfing Champions competition from a superyacht. From the deck, they have a perfect view of all the action and can even mingle with world champion surfers. Meanwhile, waiters are on hand to offer cold towels, champagne and canapes throughout the day. Guests can also cool off at any point in the air-conditioned interior, which has a bar and lounge.

As an extra incentive, Four Seasons Kuda Huraa is offering a fifth night free to guests who book a four-night stay. They will also receive exclusive inclusions, such as dinner for two at one of the resort’s spectacular restaurants, and a choice of either a Dolphin Cruise or Sunset Fishing Cruise for two guests once per stay.
And if watching former surfing world champions inspires you to get back in the water, the resort also has its own surf school, Tropicsurf. Options range from a beginner’s lagoon session to ocean transition sessions with an instructor at surf points or private coaching sessions. For seasoned surfers, there are many surf points in the area to explore other than Sultan’s and Honky’s. The resort can also take you to Chickens, Cokes, or the mellower Ninjas and Tombstones. All of these surf breaks are within easy access of Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa.
