Meet the performers who bring the wow factor to the Maldives’ top resorts
If you enjoy acrobatics and fire shows, you’ll find evenings are anything but boring in the Maldives. Not too long ago, only a few resorts were known for hosting regular showcases by performers, such as Club Med Kani. But over the past five to 10 years, the trend for live shows and pop-ups has developed amongst many more of the country’s four and five-star resorts.
However, you should check your resort website for an Entertainment Schedule or ask the reservations agent before you book if you want to guarantee witnessing this kind of experience, because not every resort is in on the trend, and it doesn’t always happen in low season or shoulder season.
We caught up with dancer, choreographer, artistic director and owner of Dc² Entertainment & Dance Company, Danni Cash, to find out more.

MMMaldives:
How long have you been performing in the Maldives for?
Danni:
I’ve been working for the past four years with Kandima Maldives and Kihaa Maldives. I was contacted out of the blue by Toby Houghton from Anglo Entertainment, who supplies bands and DJs in the Maldives, and it went from there!
MMMaldives:
What kind of live performances are the most popular in the Maldives?
Danni:
Normally, the resorts want five performers. They love a multi-skilled performer who can do fire, hula hoop, LED and dance. It brings something different to the island.

MMMaldives: What are the challenges of performing in the Maldives?
Danni:
Performing in the Maldives is rather different to the UK, where I’m from. The main thing is the weather. It’s harder in the rainy season – not that it rains that much in rainy season, but when it does, it really pours. If the wind picks up it can be a real problem when it comes to the fire shows, because of the costumes. And once it was really hot all day and the sand was still really hot in the evening so we had to change locations.
So, on those occasions, we have to change the plan for the performance five minutes before the show starts. I think that’s a real reflection on the professionalism of the team though, because they can always change it all up at the last minute.

MMMaldives:
Is there anything you’d really like to show the Maldives that hasn’t been seen before?
Danni:
The Maldives is such a beautiful place and somewhere that you can meet people from all over the world. I’d love to show the Maldives our laser dance show. We have lasers on our hands and it’s choreographed so that the lasers shine and turn in all different directions at different times. And even though our productions, aerial acrobatics and fire shows have a real wow factor, I’d really like to create a hip hop and street dance show that just focuses on dancers because we have so many talented dancers in the UK.
