A luxury resort in the Maldives is offering one lucky intern the chance to spend their days exploring its coral reef
The St Regis Maldives Vommuli, a five-star resort in Dhaalu Atoll, is seeking a marine biology graduate for the internship of a lifetime. The role will involve living on the private island for up to six months, with food and lodgings covered. Duties will involve regular snorkelling and diving sessions in the lagoon to check the condition of the reef. The chosen intern will also get to help do their bit for the planet by working on a Coral Propagation Program.
Reefscapers, the marine consultancy company that operates the Coral Propogation Programme, is coordinating the internship. The organisation’s main goal is to help restore the coral reefs in the Maldives, and internationally, that have been affected by rising sea temperatures and ocean acidification.

One of Reefscaper’s key techniques is helping to rebuild coral reefs by growing tiny fragments of hardy coral species on frames that are then placed in the sea. These programmes are very popular with guests, who will receive photos and updates if they sponsor a frame. The new intern’s role will also involve photographing these sponsored frames and providing donors with these updates.
But the chosen intern will also be able to flex their photographic skills on Reefscaper’s and the St Regis’ social media platforms. The internship ad states Reefscapers is seeking a marine biology graduate with solid public relations skills and the ability to help grow Reefscapers’ social media presence to increase engagement and awareness.
However, influencers, photographers and videographers are strictly barred from applying, unless they have a BSc or MSc in marine biology as well as a scuba diving licence.

The role will also involve taking guests on guided snorkelling trips and making presentations about marine biology.
Reefscapers has an excellent track record of propelling interns into their chosen careers. Approximately 50% go on to be hired in full-time jobs at Reefscapers or find work elsewhere in the Maldives, according to Reefscapers.
