The new ‘Kodhipparu Reef Connection’ is inspired by the resort’s acclaimed house reef
A five-star resort in North Male’ Atoll has created a new experience designed around its award-winning coral reef. The house reef at Grand Park Kodhipparu Maldives was ranked among the Top Ten in the Maldives in the 2026 Travel + Leisure Luxury Awards Asia Pacific. A ‘house reef’ is the coral reef adjacent to an island. Most (but not all) resorts in the Maldives have one, and they’re normally a short distance from the beach or water villas.
Since snorkelling is the number one activity for visitors to the Maldives, the house reef forms an important part of the holiday. In fact, many guests who are keen divers and snorkellers will take the quality and health of the house reef into account when choosing a resort.
At Grand Park Kodhipparu Maldives, you can swim from the beach to the reef, or you can access it directly from one of the resort’s Reef Pool Water Villas. With the reef being such an integral part of their guests’ holidays, the resort team decided to design a one-day experience centered around the reef. It gives guests multiple ways to experience and appreciate the house reef. Named the ‘Kodhipparu Reef Connection’, the new experience joins the dots between the fabulous Reef Pool Water Villas, marine biology, wellbeing, and dining.
With the house reef as its inspiration, the Kodhipparu Reef Connection follows the natural rhythm of a day on the island. You begin by waking up in a Reef Pool Villa, which is positioned to face the sunrise. A good dose of early morning sunshine is very helpful in easing jetlag symptoms and helping your bodyclock adapt to the new timezone if you have travelled from afar.
But also the position of a Reef Pool Villa allows you to watch the island and the reef wake up from a prime vantage point – your own private sundeck. With the house reef stretching out before you, you then embark on a guided sunrise yoga session – quietly connecting to the ocean, before venturing beneath the surface for a closer inspection.
Next, Grand Park Kodhipparu’s resident marine biologist takes you through her work on protecting the reef, explains what kind of creatures make it their home, and tells you how it changes through the day, eventually becoming a hive of frenetic activity after sunset. The marine biologist fills you in on what to look out for, and where, so that you’re equipped with the knowledge to discover the reef independently, too.
As golden hour approaches, the experience moves above the water with sunset cocktails and chef’s canapés. You then take a seat at a reserved glass-floor table suspended over the ocean at Firedoor, the resort’s speciality restaurant. Grand Park Koddhiparu’s marine biologist will explain about the sealife visible underneath your table before you tuck into a signature three-course dinner.
