18-year-old Sierra Kerr is the youngest competitor to ever join the Maldives’ famous surfing competition
Four Seasons Resorts Maldives has announced Australian-American surfer, Sierra Kerr, will be taking on the likes of Craig Anderson and Jesse Mendes at its annual surfing championship. The Four Seasons Maldives Surfing Champions Trophy, running from September 4th to 11th, is now in its 15th year.
Sierra, 18, who holds the title of 2023 World Junior Champion, may be the youngest surfer the Maldivian competition has ever seen, but the former child surf prodigy looks set to give her competitors a run for their money. She will also be the only woman competing in the lineup.
The talented young surfer has prior experience of Sultan’s Surf Break in the Maldives, the location of the Four Seasons Surfing Trophy. It was back in 2020 that a then 12-year-old Sierra sat in the channel at Sultan’s watching her father, surfer Josh Kerr, competing for the trophy, and vowed she would return one day as a competitor.

Sierra says: “I’ve got so many great memories of the Maldives from when Dad was competing here. Seeing him win was amazing, and I remember hoping one day I’d be good enough to be invited.
“No woman has ever won the Surfing Champions Trophy before, so it would be incredible to be the first!”.
Sierra will be taking on six other surfing greats, including Craig Anderson and Jesse Mendes (plus other soon-to-be-revealed legends). The event is the world’s only surfing event to test competitors across single fin, twin fin and thruster disciplines.
The event is organised by Four Seasons, and guests staying at the nearby Four Seasons Resorts Maldives at Kuda Huraa resort can grab front-row seats from luxury boats during the event. They’ll even have a chance to meet competitors during informal beachfront gatherings after competition days. To find out more about the special pacakge for surfers and surfing fans, click here.
